Hypnotherapy is Very Different to Stage Hypnosis…

Stage Hypnosis

Well the stuff you see on television where people are clucking like chickens or playing an air guitar that is Stage Hypnosis. Very funny, very clever but not Hypnotherapy as in Hypno “therapy”. Most people who are picked to go on stage are extroverts who don’t mind doing crazy things on stage to make us laugh. Stage Hypnosis is purely for fun, to entertain, to make people have an enjoyable night out, very skilled but nothing whatsoever to do with treating unwanted issues.

Hypnotherapy

Because Stage Hypnosis is seen more often through the media, people often confuse the two. I am never surprised now when people sometimes say on enquiring about an appointment,  how nervous they feel, I often hear things such as you’re not going to turn me into a frog are you?… do I need to look into your eyes, will I lose control… and the answer to all these questions is NO. Nothing could be further from the truth, Hypnotherapy is one of the most gentle therapies that I have studied. Please be assured that you will never ever be asked to do anything whatsoever that would make you feel uncomfortable or outside of your comfort zone.

Hypnotherapy is just that a “therapy” it is a very gentle, deeply relaxing, effective way to eliminate years of debilitating habits and unwanted feelings and issues. I have been working as a therapist for over 20 years and in my opinion, Hypnosis is the most effective method of personal change.

How will I feel in a Hypnosis Session?

My clients are often surprised how deeply they can relax. Hypnotherapy is a deeply calming experience, a very effective way to change unwanted negative behaviour patterns.

You will leave the session feeling completely calm and at peace and you can always guarantee that your will feel much better when you walk out from the appointment than when you walked in before the session.

To book an appointment or find out more about how it can help you, call me on 07922 222011.

OCD – Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

Check, Check and Check Again!

OCD or Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is a common condition which starts in the mind, causing a person to have obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviours. It affects, men, women and children and can develop at any age. OCD can be very distressing and can cause a lot of disruption with a persons life not to mention the time it can take for you to feel ready to leave the house or complete the daily rituals!

There are many ways that OCD can manifest such as checking that a door is locked several times even though the person knows that they did originally lock it.,  checking windows are shut, flicking a switch on and off several times, often voicing the words on/off aloud or in their heads. Unplugging all the plugs from the wall sockets over and over – Washing hands repeatedly feeling that they are still dirty even though its impossible for them to be so, having to straighten a picture many times until it is just right and the list goes on and on. Many people I have previously worked with have said how embarrassed they feel about OCD.  I have been told often that they hide their habit from their loved ones, causing even more anxiety at the thought of being found out. The compulsive thoughts are very powerful and real to the person with OCD. As a bystander or member of any family who live with someone with OCD the rituals and compulsions would be hard to understand but are felt deeply but the person with the condition.

What causes OCD?

Everything we do or feel starts in the mind.  The way we think commands the way we feel. We cannot feel an emotion or do an action unless we think it. Often these thoughts are thought unconsciously.  The thoughts will trigger a signal to the body to feel/act in a certain way. Often OCD is a response to unresolved stress sometimes from long ago. Stress causes sensations in the body. Once a pattern of negative thought is fixed in the mind, the physiology (body) will respond in a certain way. For example, if through OCD you think the words “have I locked the door” the thought will trigger uncomfortable feelings in the body and the feeling of compulsion comes over you to go and check just in case. Once the OCD pattern is playing in your mind, you will not be able to relax until you are sure that door is locked. I have known many people who take over an hour a day to leave the house for work. So much time is wasted, and many people with OCD feel ashamed about their habits but the feelings are so strong they have to go through their ritual before they feel right again.

How does Hypnotherapy help?

Hypnotherapy is very effective in treating and resolving OCD. Since Hypnosis works with the thought process of the mind, it is a very easy way to change the unwanted pattern. By breaking the connection between their thoughts and feelings with certain techniques, the person can eliminate the uncomfortable feelings of compulsion. It is easier than you may think to get back in control and learn to relax and become calm. Hypnotherapy is a very gentle but powerful way to release you from unwanted negative patterns. Imagine how good its going to feel to do something “just the once” and move on without giving it a second thought.

New Years Resolutions – The Promises we make to ourselves……again

Every new years eve, thousands of us make a promise to change something within ourselves,  to lose weight, stop smoking, cut down on drinking be less stressed and so on.  By now, the second week in January, most of us would have broken those promises already and gone back into the old way probably feeling disappointed or disillusioned with ourselves.  Why do we do this to ourselves every year?,  why cant we follow through our resolutions?  It is because the mind will always take us back to what is familiar every time, so whatever the trigger is to make us do the old familiar habit, we will always go back to what we know even if it is not what we want.  In other words, you have to change the way you think to change the behaviour pattern.

Lets talk about eating…

How many people have gone on diets, lost weight only to put it on again.  – Why is it that even when we lose weight, feel better, get positive complements we go back to the old way of over eating? –  the answer is again, the mind will take you back to what feels familiar once the reasons behind overeating are triggered again.  Its like if you play an old record over and over again you are always going to get the same tune.

The thing that drives us to sabotage our success and over eat are feelings,  an unmet need, a void, feelings of needing comfort, reward, boredom, loneliness, stress these are all triggers to make us overeat.   Going on a diet will never stop these familiar feelings only temporarily suppress them, you have to change the way you think around food.

FEELINGS WILL ALWAYS OVERCOME LOGIC – FEELINGS ARE MORE POWERFUL

The problem with diets are they keep you thinking about food.  Calorie counting, weighing ingredients, adding points etc,   this is all very draining because you have to think about food all the time, the very thing that you are trying to stop thinking about!

I have had many people come to my practise, who have told me that food is on their mind from the minute they wake up to the time they go to bed.  Planning ahead what their next meal will be.   Some say, they feel they have no stop button, no off switch, they just constantly eat and never feel full,  others say that they think  terrible things about themselves in their heads, because they feel so disappointed that they cannot stick to a healthy diet.  The mind believes whatever you tell it so if you are putting yourself down constantly, you can never really expect to feel full of the joys of spring.

There is a solution…Hypnotherapy

Change your thoughts to change your feelings and habits around food.

With hypnotherapy we do not use the word diet (you already know how to do that)  it is all about healthy eating, creating a healthy relationship with food.    Through hypnosis, you will gently relax and drift down into a most comfortable calm place in your mind and body and new positive suggestions about eating and food will be installed into the unconscious mind so that this new pattern will become familiar and the old unwanted pattern will gently go away so that you can play a new tune, one which you will like.

Hypnotherapy puts you in control of  your eating habits, what you choose to eat when you are truly hungry, being completely happier with  smaller amounts of food, eating slowly, and you automatically stop eating when you are full and even sometimes choose to leave food on your plate that you know you do not need.  No more emotional eating to suppress an unwanted feeling.  You have all the power over your eating habits and you choose to put good foods into your body and control your weight.

Choose to be in control now.

If you would like any further information regarding hypnotherapy for healthy eating or to book an appointment,  please call me on 01293 530841 or 07922 222011  I will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have.

When a person wakes up every night and can’t get back to sleep this is know as Insomnia – Insomnia is a sleep disorder that regularly affects millions of people all over the world.  Consequently individuals with insomnia find it difficult to fall asleep or stay asleep.   When you tell yourself that you can’t sleep or that you expect to wake up, your mind believes you.  Therefore it follows your instruction and wakes you up!  Insomnia is just a pattern that is learned and consequently is easily resolved through hypnosis.   Insomnia is a debilitating habit but the good news is…

Stress and Anxiety

Imagine the scenario, it’s Saturday night and you are out for the night, the pubs and restaurants are packed with people seemingly having a good time, drinking, eating laughing, but did you know that 85 per cent of UK adults are experiencing stress and high levels of anxiety regularly, so if this sounds like you, you are not alone.

Behind the mask of laugher and having fun, many people are suffering inside uncomfortable feelings of fear in their bodies.  The picture you see on the outside is not necessary the picture on the inside?

High anxiety can be devastating, creating feelings of low self esteem and loss of confidence and physical feelings such as heart palpitations, sweating, difficulty in breathing, fuzzy head, headaches, dizziness, fear of fainting, insomnia and feelings of wanting to run away to just “get out”.  Stress and anxiety is just a pattern that gets reinforced every time  we think about what feelings we don’t want instead of focusing on what we do want –   i.e.choosing to think calmly.

Stress and anxiety is caused by mental overload, when we worry of overthink our thoughts create the feelings in our bodies, our physiology  – in other words, our thoughts create our feelings.  The more we do not want to experience negative feelings, by thinking about them the stronger they become.  Many people take prescription drugs to calm themselves down but these do not erase the feelings, they just suppress or mask them temporarily.

There is a solution…

Hypnotherapy is a very gentle way to resolve the unwanted feelings associated with stress and anxiety by breaking the pattern that goes around and around.

As a hypnotherapist based in the Crawley, Sussex area, over the last 12 years,  I have treated many people with various degrees of stress and anxiety right through to panic attacks and agoraphobia, my clients are often surprised at how different they feel after hypnosis.  By changing the negative thought pattern, the unwanted physiological feelings disappear therefore allowing the person to take back their control and allow them to feel comfortable in their bodies once more.   Most importantly to remember is that life is to be enjoyed and social events should not fill you with a sense of dread.

Take back your control today.

To book an appointment please call me on Crawley 01293 530841 or 07922 222011
